For the most part, Ely W. Sluder focuses his practice on business transactional matters such as business formation and start-up, contracts, trademarks, intellectual property licensing, along with some real estate, asset protection, and estate planning, but he can also handle complex business litigation. Serving closely-held business owners as their “virtual in-house counsel,” Ely handles client issues such as mergers and acquisitions, asset sales and purchases, commercial leases, general contract drafting and review, and dispute resolution (litigation and non-litigation).
Ely received his law degree from the Arizona State University College of Law in 2003 (which, in 2006, changed its name to the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law) where he studied business, internet law, real estate, and intellectual property. He completed the mediation clinic while in law school and has helped mediate many disputes during his career. Prior to attending law school, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Communication with an emphasis on rhetoric and conflict resolution from Arizona State University in 2000.
Ely is also a veteran, having served as a Combat Medic in the US Army from 1992-1995. After receiving his law degree, he spent time as General Counsel for an internet company and also was co-owner of, and General Manager/General Counsel for, a licensed real estate brokerage firm. In 2006, Ely joined Rayndon & Associates, PLC, which merged with the law firm of Clark Hill PLC in January 2015. Ely joined Backes & Hill in November 2016.
In 2010, Ely moved to New Jersey so his children could grow up near their cousins and extended family. He continues to support his Arizona clients remotely, and services businesses and individuals in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, where he is also licensed to practice law. Ely enjoys biking, hiking, and coaching youth lacrosse.
